Job description
About Carbon Equity
Carbon Equity is a digital wealth platform that seeks to mobilise private capital at a scale of billions to help solve the world’s biggest challenges, starting with climate change. We do so by democratising access to impact-driven alternative investments such as venture capital and private equity. Founded in Amsterdam, we combine a strong culture of impact, high performance, and innovation with a deep commitment to building a values-driven organization. As we scale, we are looking for ambitious, mission-aligned talent to help us accelerate the global transition to a net-zero economy.
Position: Digital Designer
Location: Amsterdam
Reporting to: Head of Product
Role Overview
We're looking for a versatile Digital Designer who thrives on variety — someone equally at home crafting a pixel-perfect UI component as they are laying out a pitch deck, a print ad, or a social asset. You'll sit at the intersection of product and marketing, working closely with our engineers, commercial team, and brand to tell the visual story of Carbon Equity across every touchpoint.
This is not a role for someone who wants a narrow brief and a slow lane. We move fast, we care deeply about quality, and we believe design is a lever for impact. You'll have real ownership, real responsibility, and the freedom to shape how we work — not just what we make.
What you’ll do
Own the full design spectrum — from web UI and digital product screens to marketing assets, online ads, printed materials, and slide deck templates
Bridge design and engineering — work closely with developers to close the gap between Figma and production; where needed, touch the codebase directly to refine CSS and proactively suggest frameworks and libraries that improve the workflow
Bring our brand to life — apply and continuously improve our recently updated brand book across all channels, ensuring consistency, quality, and visual impact
Elevate the details — obsess over micro-interactions, edge cases, and the small decisions that separate good design from great design
Maintain and evolve our design system — steward our component library and design tokens, keeping them scalable and coherent as the product grows
Support commercial teams — produce assets that help marketing and sales communicate our investment products compellingly and clearly
Champion smart ways of working — stay curious about new tools and technologies that make the team faster and better
What we're looking for
A designer who combines strong UI skills with graphic design instincts — form and function, in equal measure
Someone who takes initiative and enjoys shaping the way design works within a tech team, not just executing tasks
Comfortable working across a wide range of challenges — and finding that variety energising rather than overwhelming
A collaborative, open personality who works well with engineers, marketers, and commercial teams
A commercial mindset — you understand that good design serves a purpose and contributes to business outcomes
Hands-on experience with Figma and an interest in front-end (CSS knowledge is a plus)
Enjoys working in a scale-up environment: fast-moving, high-ownership, and genuinely impactful
What we're not looking for
Someone who puts process above outcomes — if your toolkit defines the scope of your work, this isn't the right fit
A hyper-specialist who isn't curious about adjacent disciplines
Someone who prefers to work in isolation or only on a single type of project
A fully remote-only setup — we value in-person collaboration
Our design environment
We work in Figma and ship via server-rendered Django templates styled with Tailwind CSS v4, using a library of reusable Cotton components. Interactivity is handled through HTMX and Alpine.js. Our design system includes four type families (Inter, Sagona, Denim, Denim Ink) and a Plum primary palette with secondary accents — all defined in design tokens and documented in our brand book.
In short: there's a solid foundation here, and we're looking for someone who wants to build on it.
Why Carbon Equity
Tired of designing for products that don't matter? We're building infrastructure for a more sustainable financial system — and every design decision contributes to that mission. You'll join a small, high-performing team where your work is visible, your voice is heard, and your impact is real.
We're a scale-up, not a corporate. That means fewer layers, more responsibility, and the opportunity to leave your mark.
Carbon Equity is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.
Job requirements
Qualifications & experiences
You have demonstrated a good technical understanding of the software systems and tools needed in your daily work, like Figma.
You can take projects from concept to shipping alongside a programmer. Your work requires minimal review or guidance.
You can set scope and manage small projects with minimal oversight or approval. You may need help determining how and when to cut scope.
You’re able to write modern HTML/CSS. It is okay to lack direct experience with Python, but you are comfortable working in the codebase, applying your designs and interactions to implemented code with oversight and feedback with developers.
You are developing a wide range of focus and find opportunities to make improvements to your work as you go. You look for the opportunity to make small improvements to the product (quick wins).
Fluent command of English, both written and verbal.
Located in the Netherlands or willing to relocate and has a permit to work in the Netherlands. Carbon Equity cannot sponsor your relocation.
Note: We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. As part of this commitment, we encourage individuals from all backgrounds and experiences to apply for our open positions, even if you don't meet all of the qualifications listed in the job description.
