About Carbon Equity

Carbon Equity is a digital wealth platform that mobilises private capital to accelerate the transition to a net-zero economy. We democratise access to impact-driven alternative investments — such as venture capital and private equity — so individuals can invest directly in climate technology and innovation.

Founded in Amsterdam, we combine a strong culture of impact, high performance, and innovation with a deep commitment to building a values-driven organisation. As we scale, we are looking for ambitious, mission-aligned talent to help us grow — and do so responsibly.

Job requirements

The Role

As Legal Associate at Carbon Equity, you will play a key role in shaping the legal and regulatory foundation of a rapidly scaling investment platform.

You will work closely with the CLRO, Compliance officer, Finance manager, and Investment Team on a wide range of matters — from fund formation and investor documentation to regulatory topics such as AIFMD, Wft, DORA, and privacy.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work very close to the business, supporting the development of new and innovative fund structures — such as the first Dutch ELTIF launched last year — while remaining part of a small, collaborative team.

It’s an ideal next step for someone looking to transition from private practice to an in-house role, in an environment that combines intellectual challenge, entrepreneurial energy, and tangible impact.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support the setup and structuring of new Carbon Equity funds.

  • Draft and review legal documentation such as fund agreements, PPMs, KIDs, and related investor documentation.

  • Provide legal input on marketing materials and investor communications.

  • Monitor developments in Dutch and EU financial regulation — including AIFMD, Wft, DORA, and privacy law — and assess their impact on our business.

  • Develop and maintain standard templates and playbooks (e.g., transfer agreements, distribution agreements, NDAs).

  • Work cross-functionally with the sales, investment, and operations teams to ensure compliance with applicable regulation and to support commercial execution.

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree in Law (Dutch).

  • 3–5 years of experience as a lawyer or legal counsel, ideally in financial services, private equity, or venture capital.

  • Strong understanding of Dutch financial regulation (Wft, AIFMD, DORA, privacy).

  • Excellent drafting skills and ability to communicate complex legal topics clearly and pragmatically.

  • Native Dutch speaker with fluent English.

  • You enjoy working in a dynamic environment and are motivated by the opportunity to help build something new.

Who You Might Be Today

  • A lawyer at a top-tier firm (funds or regulatory practice) looking to move in-house.

  • A legal counsel or regulatory specialist in a fund manager, wealth platform, or related financial institution.

  • A professional at a regulator (e.g., AFM) seeking to work closer to business execution.

What We Offer

  • A mission-driven company working on the defining challenge of our time.

  • The opportunity to participate in our employee stock option plan (ESOP).

  • The chance to work on cutting-edge regulatory and fund structuring topics — including pioneering products like ELTIFs.

  • A small, entrepreneurial legal team where your impact is direct and visible.

  • Hybrid work setup, with at least three days per week in our Amsterdam office.

  • 25 vacation days (based on full-time) and bi-annual company offsites.

  • Competitive compensation package in line with experience.
